By Chief Executive Janet Morrison
At Community Pharmacy England, work is continuing apace as we prepare for the next round of negotiations on the Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) and explore the implications of the NHS 10 Year Plan.
Financial and economic analysis showing the depth of the ongoing funding crisis and the impact it is having on pharmacies and their patients is continuing, and you may have seen national media coverage about our Pressures Survey over the summer. We have also been conducting in-depth analysis of medicine supply issues, retained margin and funding models to inform our futures thinking. This is alongside implementation work to get all the autumn services and service changes off the ground; and of course advocacy work, in Parliament and at the political party conferences, to ensure that community pharmacy’s value, potential and needs are understood, and factored into healthcare policy discussions at the highest levels.
Throughout all of this, it is critical that we continue to hear from you, as pharmacy owners: your views and experiences are central to our negotiating strategy. Over the summer we have gathered insights from pharmacy owners across the sector via a variety of routes:
- through opinion polling, with some 4,000 pharmacy premises represented in our polls in June and September;
- through input from other sector bodies, who we wrote to over the summer asking for their thoughts and ideas; and
- through our sector workshops.
All of these findings informed Committee discussions when Community Pharmacy England met last week, helping to shape our priorities for these negotiations.
The team will also be attending the Pharmacy Show this autumn, where we’ll continue these conversations. We’re running several sessions to update you on many of our key workstreams, and we will also have a stand – H55 – so that you come and speak to us at a time which suits you. Whether you’ve ideas or opinions to share, or questions to ask, we’d love to see you there. These conversations and your views are critical to help strengthen our evidence base, feeding directly into our preparations for the CPCF negotiations.
We know that the best outcomes will come from a united sector, and the Pharmacy Show gives us all a chance to strengthen that unity. Whether you want to raise a concern, ask a question, or simply hear more about what we’re doing, we’ll be there to talk. If you haven’t already, I would encourage you to register for the Pharmacy Show and make time to visit our stand and sessions (find out more about our presence at the Pharmacy Show below).
