The Chief Pharmaceutical Officer (CPhO) for England, David Webb, has written to the community pharmacy sector about the Pharmacy First service in an end of year letter.

Whilst thanking pharmacy colleagues for making a “valuable contribution” to the NHS this year, the CPhO notes that the agreement of the national Pharmacy First service marks a “pivotal moment” for community pharmacy.

In his letter, the CPhO encourages pharmacy owners to sign up to provide the new and updated services introduced under the Primary Care Access Recovery Plan to help deliver maximum benefit for the population of England. This follows on from Mr Webb’s appearance on Community Pharmacy England’s ‘Pharmacy First: Getting to know the service’ webinar last week.

The letter also outlines the range of support underway for the implementation of Pharmacy First and changes to the Contraception and Blood Pressure Check services. This includes providing funded clinical examination skills training and work to help reinforce messages to the public about the clinical capability of pharmacy professionals.
