Community Pharmacy England has seen a large number of products with increases to their list prices on 1 January 2026. Following the price change mechanism rules, price changes for generic products up to and including the 8th of the month take effect for prescriptions dispensed in that same month. Any price changes after the 8th of the month take place in the following month.

We have received several reports from pharmacy teams unable to obtain the following products at or below the published January 2026 Drug Tariff prices. Following the price change mechanism rules, the actual reimbursement prices are set out in the table below:

Product Published January 2026 Drug Tariff Price Actual Reimbursement Price for January 2026
Omeprazole 10mg/5ml oral suspension sugar free (Rosemont Pharmaceuticals Ltd) (75ml) £130.20 £134.11
Omeprazole 1mg/ml oral suspension sugar free (Rosemont Pharmaceuticals Ltd) (75ml) £116.55 £120.05
Omeprazole 20mg/5ml oral suspension sugar free (Rosemont Pharmaceuticals Ltd) (75ml) £245.70 £253.07

Please note: This is not an exhaustive list and does not include all products whose January 2026 reimbursement price differs (due to the price change mechanism) from those published in the Drug Tariff. The products listed in the table above include those reported by pharmacy owners as being unavailable to purchase at or below the published Drug Tariff price for January.

Reimbursement prices for generic Category C products in Part VIIIA of the Drug Tariff are indicative and follow the price change mechanism rules for generic drugs.

Community Pharmacy England has made representations to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) for price adjustments for several branded products affected by an increase in list price. Under the current price change mechanismpharmacy owners would have to wait one (or in some cases two months) before any NHS list prices changes are applied to reimbursement of branded products. The delays in reimbursement prices catching up with any NHS list price increases can lead to dispensing at a loss as pharmacies will be reimbursed based on the previous NHS list price until the price change is adjusted in line with the price change timetable. The impact is more significant for products with large list price increases or for high volume lines.
